Disney World Plans Hotel, Shopping Area

Walt Disney World plans to build a luxury hotel and a residential-commercial center at the Florida recreational resort, the company said Thursday.

The hotel, developed with Four Seasons Hotels Inc., will be on a 900-acre property that will also include an 18-hole golf course and single-family and fractional-ownership homes, Walt Disney World Resort President Meg Crofton said.

The hotel is expected to open in 2010, with the current Osprey Ridge golf course renovated and re-branded as a Four Seasons property, she said.

The residential-commercial center will be for "value-conscious" guests just outside the western edge of the Disney property, Crofton said.

The development will have 4,000 to 5,000 units of low- and mid-priced lodging along with a "pedestrian-friendly" retail center with dining, shopping and small-scale entertainment venues, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.
