Gatorland fire

This morning a fire blazed at Gatorland in Florida. Most of the main building is destroyed, including the main entrance that was a big crocodile mouth with big white teeth that used to welcome the guest. Although the entrance is still there, the fire damage might be to big to save it they way we know it. Luckily nobody of the employees was harmed, however some animals left their life in the fire. You can follow more news on OrlandoSentinel.com.

I have some great memories of Gatorland myself when I visited it in 2002. One of them is that my son (he was three years old at the time) and his nephews had a small gator on their laps and a snake around their shoulders. I was really proud that these things didn’t scare him and would be (and wanted to be – I did not force him) on the picture with the animals. It was a great day out and something I would consider a must do when visiting Florida. Although the Gators are the main attractions I would also like to mention that the small cafĂ© at the back, where the play yard is located, has the best ice coffee I have ever tasted in my life. It has been 4 years ago since I visited them but I can still remember that amazing cup of coffee!

I wanted to add some of my fond memories of the place in support to the people that work at Gatorland and the people taking care of the animals. I wish Gatorland all the best for the future. I hope the fire will not take control of this future and that people in, around and those going to Orlando help them out with a visit to make this unfortunate event to be forgotten soon.
